I have been using Windows Live Mail for some time without any problems.
However, when I receive emails from Pinnacle/Avid supposedly containing unlock codes for some of their software add-ons, I see a what appears to be rubbish. It is a mixture of the characters &#0 with a few extra characters mixed in, which are probably the unlock codes.
Pinnacle/Avid cannot help, stating that this problem does not occur with webmail e.g Gmail and Yahoo.

When I uploaded one of the problem emails to their site as an attachment to a mail I was sending them, the problem email appeared to become readable.

It would appear to be a coding problem.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Geoff

First off, I'd ask them to send the emails in plain text that'll at least let you see the unlock codes.

Secondly, if it's only their emails that are causing the problem I'd ask them to look a little closer at the format they are sending in.

Can you post the header of an example email (obviously disguising any private info -email/ip addresses etc.)?

This is a header from one of the problem emails.
As suggested, I have used XXXX and YYYY to diguise my email address.

You've left IP addresses visible though :(

This section was all that I required, please edit your earlier post to protect the innocent :)

I'm kinda busy right now but I'll reply later once I've had a chance to look at things.

Did they agree to send you plain text emails?

They are sending in utf32 and should be sending in utf8 for compatibility.

In WLM, at the top left corner, click on the down arrow > Options > Mail > Read > International Settings > uncheck Use default encoding for all incoming messages.

Or try setting WLM to use utf32 just to read their messages.

The problem can also exist IF the font you set for reading is not a utf32 supported font. Yopu need to use one of these fonts for utf32: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicode_typefaces

I have not asked them, the emails are computer generated.

    Thanks for your input.
The default encoding was already unchecked.
I have changed the proportional font to Arial and the fixed width to Deja Vu sans Mono. Both are in the utf32 list.
The encoding is Western European (Windows)

I will try to request the activtion keys again to see what happens.
I will let you know the result.
    Thanks again for the suggestions.

After changing the setting on WL mail, I requested the activation codes again.
They still appear in the same unreadable format.

    Two things I'd try:

    1. access your email via the browser web mail and see if OK or not. Plus.net Webmail Login

    2. shut off avg email protection temporarily and see if OK or not.

FYI, the message is already being sent in plain text, no need to request that the sender uses plain text.

Post an example of the "unreadable" activation code. (change a couple characters for security reasons)
