Try clearing your JAVA Cache. Go to Control Panel/Java and that is where you can do it. General Tab/Settings and then Delete. Leave the check marks as they are.

Thanks Mr Bill for quick response, tried Control Panel/Java, found nothing in Control Panel, is it associated with Adobe Flash Player Active X?, or is it under another heading ?
Where do I find Java Cache please.?

Click on JAVA in the CONTROL PANEL. Then in General Tab/Settings and then Delete. Leave the check marks as they are.

Sorry Mr Bill, cannot find Java on Control Panel, have looked at most of the obvious items , but nothing comes up with Java.Tried 'Add and Remove', nothing. tried System again nothing.
I will keep looking, but it will be pot luck if I find it.

In Control Panel, click on the "Switch to Classic View" link on the left, then click the "Name" column so that the names are sorted alphabetically in ascending order. If you have "Java" installed, it should show up between "Internet Options" and "Keyboard ".

Another way to check is to go to this Do I have Java? page.

If Java is not installed, you can download it from java.com.

    Situation so far.
I did not have JAVA installed (what is it anyrate?) .Have now installed it but it has not shown up on Control Panel or Desktop. Restarted PC as instructed. I know it's there because it is now listed in 'Add/Remove' but does not show as an icon in Control Oanel or Desktop.

Went to 'verify java' got the response "no working Java was detected ", " Instal Java by clicking on button 'Download Java Now' "
Did all that again, restarted as suggested, Java still shows in Add/Remove list but not in Ikons in Contro Panel, or Desktop

Hold on here guys, ActiveX Controls are not Java and have nothing at all to do with java.

ActiveX Controls are Microsoft specific packages that perform specialized tasks, such as plugins or add-ons for Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office or Media Player.

On Windows XP, ActiveX Controls are stored in:
    C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files

If you right click a file in that directory and select Properties, its Status will say either "Installed" or "Damaged ".

If you delete the damaged file(s) and continue to get the error message, start a new thread in the Removing Malware forum.

    What is an ActiveX control?

Correct. Spanner's problem with JAVA not showing up in Control Panel is a separate issue.

Let's move away from the Java issue and handle the ActiveX problem. If you have never had the Java Runtime Environment installed before then you probably don't need it now!

I will ignore the Java issue.

I have not forgotton this, have been busy sorting other issues out since Christmas, what does Xmas do to all these PC's, having a flood of PC problems at our 'Over 50' forum.
I wish people would remember that PC's under the desk need attention, such as regulary sticking tthe nozzle of the vacuum somewhere near the PC .
I will get back on to this SAP.
