W2K system using Outlook 2000 SP3, New unread messages place an envelope icon on the taskbar. After reading the messages the envelopes remain. Several instances of outlook.exe are running in processes and I need to end process instance in order remove the envelopes. Does this have anything to do with McAfee anti-virus? Help me Mr. Wizard!!

Does this happen all the time?
Does rebooting help or do you end up with multi Outlooks in Task Manager?

    Hi Steve!
Latest info. I can share with you. A better description of problem is a new email notification envelope appears on the system taskbar and won't go away after messages are read. The user who is having the problem opens his outlook once a day and just minimizes it through-out the day. There is no PDA or third party email notification software involved. He does have Spambayes as his spam fighter and McAfee as his anti-virus. This morning he did not have the envelope and only one Outlook.exe process. Go figure. Help me Mr. Wizard!!

So the issue kind of went away?
If so, I'd guess he "was" having issue with Outlook and the loading of multi exe's...

I am not so sure that I have seen this problem for the last time. If you have a check list of things to investigate I will add them to my file on this problem for future reference.
