I assume you are referring to Defrag.

Unmovable blocks are ususlly files such as the Windows swap file. In Windows 9x-ME that would be a file named Win386.swp. In Windows 2000 and XP, it is a file named Pagefile.sys.

There may be others, depending on your OS and the programs loaded or running at the same time as Defrag.

    thanks for your reply.

What exactly is an unmovable block though?

Is it Hard disk space that cannot be used until format? or FDISK or partition magic?

An unmovable block contains files that are open during the current session. Most of them are system files, such as those named by Alex but there are application files too.
Those blocks aren´t bad, they are in use and the file cannot be moved since it´s in an opened state.
