I have a Telstra MF60 wireless wifi modem which I wish to unlock. I have the unlocking key from CrowdSupport.Telstra, but when I connect the modem to my Windows computer, it does not find the modem, so that I am unable to unlock it. Any suggestions, please?
I wondered if it was an issue as I am using Windows 10, and if I could therefore set up a virtual desktop running Windows 7, from which I previously upgraded, but I have not been able to carry this through either. Any suggestions as to whether this might have a better chance of working, and how to get Windows 7 running in this way.
    Many thanks.

    Hi, Neil.
Thanks for this. Yes, I connected it by USB cable. I've downloaded the manual, too, and I'll see if I can find anything useful in it.
    Regards,
    Clyde.

Hi eclyde1936, Would you please take the time to fill in your System Details In UserCP. Follow the instructions carefully and scroll to the bottom of the page and SAVE before closing.
Do you have WiFi built in to your m/b? Neil.

    Hi, Neil.
Yes, the modem has inbuilt wifi.
I have filled in the system details - except for the motherboard, which I have not been able to identify.
    Clyde.

Woops! Your System Details are not shown - you missed something.
I asked the question about WiFi, meaning your M/b in the comp. Unless you have WiFi capability in the m/b we are pushing the brown stuff uphill.
Download https://www.piriform.com/speccy and install to your comp and it will enable you to tell us exactly what's in your comp. Neil.

Just so others here understand what the user wants to accomplish:

Unlocking this modem = replacing the branded firmware with stock or custom firmware. This modem is not unlike a cell phone, it has a sim card and an operating system. Unlocking it is akin to rooting an android device.

A connection must exist between the computer and the device, the new firmware gets uploaded to the device.

There are many guides via google that advise how to unlock this device. The problem in this case is unlocking it when using Windows 10. Unfortunately, as Windows 10 is so new, there is little advice to be found via google re unlocking this device if using Windows 10.

I suspect the problem is due to the native USB drivers that Windows 10 utilizes for the device. Windows 7 has no issues.

    What I would try:

Get a hold of the USB drivers Windows 7 uses for the modem and then load those drivers for the device in Windows 10. May or may not work.

Tony, I understand what he wants to do but if his HP comp/laptop does not have WLAN chipset how can he set up WiFi communication?
HP state in the Manual I looked at that certain Models do NOT have WLAN. Neil.

    Neil,
    Thanks for this.
I'm going to try unlocking using another computer whis is still running Windows 7. That may solve the problem.
    Regards,
    Clyde.

    Tony,
    Thanks for this.
What might be easier is to take the modem to another computer which is running Windows 7, and try again with it. I don't have one myself, but will see if I can access one elsewhere.
    Regards,
    Clyde.

He doesn't want to setup wifi communications, he wants to flash the firmware on the modem. That is done using USB cable. Yes, he would need wifi to configure the modem via its Web interface, much like one configures a home router, but firmware flashing for this modem is not done using its Web interface.

Thanks for the explanation Tony. I've been through the exercise of unlocking a cell phone (successfully) from a Virgin AU system.
It seems that his/your W7 comp suggestion may be his best option to establish a connection between comp and modem.
    We await an outcome. Neil.
