Have no experience or have I installed the following program.

    UNLOCKER
Does anyone have any experience with this program?
Could be a useful tool ... deleting virus / scumware / uninstalling bad installs.
Could it be used to circumvent user privileges ?
Could be destructive when used indiscriminately .. similar to any registry editor and deleting ALL it finds during global registry cleaning.

Dennis L--Seen it mentioned on other boards. No negatives that I can remember. However, I have not used it.
A program with a similar objective is
    http://www.dr-hoiby.com/WhoLockMe/index.php
EDIT--Just saw that the UNLOCKER webpage compares many similar programs.
Slightly unusual for a free program. Might want to check it for spyware/tracking cookies, etc.

    Thanks guys ...

Have "WhoLockMe" ... passive information, tells me who has the lock.
Have "MoveOnBoot" ... gives me time to "think ", should I delete this file. .... Sometimes my fingers move faster than my brain.
This program joins the above features. Just curious if anyone had any real-time experience using it.

This looks like some good information. I'm going to try these programs out. I have some regular issues with XP where I am unable to delete or rename files -especially folders. For example, today I was organizing a folder that contained all sorts of things from text files to mp3s to office files. After cleaning a few things up I tried to rename the folder and I was told I couldn't as it was in use by another program. crtl-alt-del showed nothing running. It seems that windows is somehow locking things up. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

    Hello scowles,

Its a OS process that locks up files/folders like that, mostly explorer, especially when doing something like renaming and it's normal. In your particular case, finishing whatever the task was completely or rebooting solves that.

The programs mentioned or booting in safe mode is for those times that a 3rd party app grabs something and you don't know which one.

    Regards - Charles
