    Hello,

Sorry if I have put this in the wrong section but unsure where to post it. I have been given a desktop computer that was previously used as part of a network and connected to a server. We cannot get it to connect to the internet. What do I need to change so that it can connect and do I need to change any other settings to make it a stand alone computer?

    Many thanks
    JS

    Which OS does it have?

But, if XP you should try-> right click on Net Neighborhood Properties->Local COnnection->Properties->TCP/IP Properties->the general tab has 2 "Obtain" options that should be selected.

Start > right click My Computer > select Properties > Computer Name Tab > Change Button (to rename this comp or change...) > Put a check in member of Workgroup in stead of Domain. > OK > Apply > reboot.
