Could someone please give me some advice on a file that is spreading throughout the different users on a laptop.

It first popped up about a week ago on a normal user, now it is on all users and the administrators start up window.

The file in question is named "~" and nothing more.

I've searched the web for sometime and come up with the possibility it could be a DOS Norton file ?!?!

Do you know if I can delete it, will it reappear after restart ? will it stop Norton working properly (if it is something to do with Norton)

    Thank you in advance..

    Hi Tuesdays!

This file has nothing to do with Norton.

A Windows update (don´t remember which) has a bug which corrupts the address book.
The name of the address book is "Your Name.wab" and it has a backup called "Your Name.wa~ ".
It is the backup that gets dislocated from the address book folder to the "User Name" root and renamed "~ ".

If You rename the "~" file "Your Name.wab" and double-click it, You should see Your address book.

    Regards,
    Christer

Edited: Well, it is the latest backup that You´ll see. After renaming it (once again if You already did it) "Your Name.wa~ ", replace the old "Your Name.wa~" in the address book folder and You have a fresh backup.
