Is anyone familiar with this file "QuickTime ".
Who download this prog to my PC

I was on the net yesterday, as I was about to log off I noticed this never-seen-before icon "QuickTime ". I never called for it, so who put it there? Was it Information Week.com? techweb.com?
The program still comes on when I boot up my PC.
Here is some info I obtained when I inquire further about this intrusion:

The QuickTime Control allows you to view a wide variety of multimedia content in web pages.
    Copyright (c)Apple Computer, Inc. 2001-2002
    product version: QuickTime 6.0.2
    product name: QuickTime
    Original file name: QTTask.exe

I was invited to download a version of it. If I am right it seems this new program is a media designed to replace Microsoft's Macro Media player. Is that so? If so is it better than Media Player? I'd like to know.
    Thank you.

You might have inadvertently clicked on a link to download because I've never heard of QT downloading and installing on its own. As to whether it's better than WMP, that's open for debate. I think it is, because it plays streaming media from the Web and I can't get WMP to do that.

If you don't want it just go to Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>select QT and uninstall it. If you wish to keep it from running at startup, download and install StartUp Cop, which will show you what's running at startup and give you the opportunity to disable it.

Thanks shadowhawk. My second question is: If I want to download and install QuickTime will it coexist with RealPlayer and WMP?
    thanks
