Currently I have Win2000, I am getting XP today...What things do I need to watch out for when loading the new OS? Do I need to make copies of everything that I have currently and reload once the new OS is in place or will they be there when its loaded up? Any other things I should watch out for would be helpful....Tks

    juharris,

You don't say if you are intending to upgrade your W2k to XP or make a clean install - which will involve a format of the HD.

If you are simply upgrading i.e. loading XP over the top of W2k there should be few problems (would never say no problems :)), but it would be wise to backup all your data just in case - even if it is all held on a separate partition/drive. Be sure to turn off your AV software and shutdown/disable any other programs that start at bootup. Your existing programs will remain installed and should work OK. You may need to update the drivers for some of your peripherals although most W2k drivers work fine under XP.

If you intend to make a clean install the drive will be formatted so a backup of your data is essential and you will need to re-install all programs so check that you have all the installation Cd's before you begin.

    Good Luck :D
