I recently installed windows 2000 MSDN, easy enough the installation process required me to boot from the floppy drive at the time my floppy drive was broken so I installed windows 98 and ran the windows 2000 installation from the CD, everything work fine but now I want to get rid of windows 98, but in windows 2000 there is no option to uninstall windows 98, therefore I booted with windows 98 and tried to uninstall windows 98 from there but I can’t find any way uninstall if from there

Could you please advise me on other ways of uninstalling windows 98 thx

Boot to 2K. Delete the 98 Windows folder. Presto. All gone.

Locate a file named boot.ini - hidden file you you'll have to set explorer to show hidden files. If you loaded from a 98 install on C: then boot.ini is probably right there in C:\

Open it with notepad or another text editor and remove the line that mentions Win98. That way you won't see the option every time you start up. 98 wouldn't start after you deleted the OS but you would still be annoyed with the option at every boot.

Be aware that when you installed 2K, some essential boot files were placed in the root of the drive 98 installed to. They gotta stay or your PC won't boot 2K. There is a fairly easy to move all those files to the drive/partition you installed 2K on but more information needed to give you specifics if you want to do it. You CANNOT simply cut and paste them.

i looked for my BOOT.ini file on my root folder but could not find, did a search and found a backup copy (boot.ini.backup) in the folder C:\winnt\pss
is it possible that my boot.ini file has been deleted? should i place my backup copy in my root folder?
But how are the OS's booting if there is no boot.ini file in the drive?

Boot.ini has to be there and on your system, has to be in c:\ but is is a hidden, system file and the default with Windows Explorer is not to show those.

To keep from messing with your Explorer settings, try

start~run~notepad.exe c:\boot.ini and it should open ready for editing for you.
