Just bought a secondhand PC with window 7 installed and It will not accept my broadband (Wanadoo) software as well as a my scanner and printer and I would like to remove it from the PC and install my trusty XP, but for some reason, even if I put the CD to boot first the **** PC insists on booting to Win 7 and doesn't eve recognise XP on the installation CD. I don't have any software on it but just want a clean formatted Hard drive. How can I get rid of this programme please.

The cd or the cd drive could be dirty.

I would hold off before removing Win 7 until you make sure you can boot and eventually install XP, you don't want to end up with a dead system do you?

Does the DVD/CD drive recognise other disks?

What version of Windows 7 is installed? Pro and above have a special XP mode (requires an additional free download) which should allow you to use the older hardware and software.

EDIT: Another thing to think about is you may end up with the same problem in reverse... Are you sure running XP on the Windows 7 system won't cause issues with Hardware there (eg XP pre SP1 would have problems with drives larger that 127Gb and SATA drives could be an issue (though mostly resolved)).

Personally I'd get a new scanner and ask Wannado how to use their service with 7.

You two guys have made me feel reeealy stupid. I totally missed the obvious- cleaned up both installation CD and drive and "Bob's yer uncle" - worked like a dream.
Thanks a lot for your help.
