I recently installed a Win XP machine on my existing network (running through a Linksys router, set-up as a small office/home network, "Workgroup" network). I ran the Windows XP Netsetup disk on the Windows 98 machine. After reading additional comments on the Net, recommendations are not to run this on non-XP machines.

How can I uninstall the XP installed network connection on my Win 98 machine and return it to its previous state?

    Thanks.

Is this causing problems? Or are you just doing it because you heard it might cause problems?

Anyway, go to Control Panel > Network. Remove all items listed and then restart. If you now setup networking from the same place, it should be from Win98.

I read in a few places that it is a better idea to make the Win XP machine conform to the rest of the network, not the other way around.
