I'm having trouble unistalling my HP OfficeJet v40xi mutltifunction printer software (s/w). When I used HP's forced unistaller it didn't remove this software since it's still listed under ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS in the CONTROL PANEL. There are no CHANGE or REMOVE buttons presented for this HP s/w---all the other programs listed have CHANGE or REMOVE buttons. I want to uninstall this s/w so I can reinstall it (to correct a scanner problem I encountered) using the CD that came with printer---any suggestions will be very much appreciated, Marion McCaleb

The software is most likely uninstalled already and only a reference was left behind, which isn't uncommon. You should be able to just reinstall it. If you really want to remove the entry first, you can do so in the registry. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall, locate the entry, right click on it and delete.

Thanks Dave---the software is apparently still installed since when I attemp to use the HP installation disk I get a message telling me it's already installed. I'll try your other suggestion for removing the software---Marion

    That won't remove the software!
Look in the folder containing the files for it for an unwise or uninstall file, or on the start menu, see if there is an uninstall option with it's entry.

Thanks for the warning Dave---when I go to START then ALL PROGRAMS and find the HP Icon, it's shown as EMPTY and yet the HP v40 OfficeJet series is still shown under ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS (with no button for removal) on the CONTROL PANEL---Marion

I did a search using the search phrase HP OFFICEJET and came up with four files which I sent to the RECYCLE BIN and then attempted once again to install the s/w using the installion CD provided by HP---still no luck---a message came up reading THE INSTALLER HAS DETECTED THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY INSTALLED THIS SOFTWARE ---does anyone have anymore suggestions?---thanks, Marion McCaleb

If there is a folder specifically for the printer software, delete it. You might also try running RegSeeker to clean up entries left in the registry. Just use the 'clean registry' function, look through what all it finds (you'll be amazed) and delete anything related to the printer. Make sure the backup box is checked. I have never had any problems deleting everything it finds, but others have, so be cautious. You can also use the 'find in registry' function to look for specific things in the registry or files.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions---I was finally able to uninstalll my printer software using the hp supplied CD-ROM. Once I had done this, reinstlling was easy and my multifunction printer is now functioning correctly---Marion McCaleb
