    Hello All,
Lately I had a program icon to appear on my desktop named "malware 4941 "...I ran Spybot , Ad-aware & HighJack This
to identify it, but nothing came up...Regseeker listed it in HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software/ Microsoft/ Windows/ Current Version/ Explorer/ Doc Find Spec MRU malware4941.
The icon leads to nowhere...I noticed the icon sometime later after a quick download of a program to view a local government web page...I think it was related to Macromedia Flash or somthing like that...Has anybody had any experience with this before?...Should I just delete it?

    Regards,
    J. M.

"download of a program to view a local government web page "

    Hi James
Dont let a web site install anything go to the hourses mouth so to speak and get it if you must from the manufacturer , even from a real official government web site.
I would also deltete files and offline content(clear IE's cache)
and contents of windows temp windows (after fresh start)

You can if you want at trend ,housecall inspect just one file when suspious.
sound like a dialer ,what were the properties?

    regards
    Lonny

    Hi
No ideas here other than what Mike says delete it. But if its still lying around or if something like this happens again have an online scaner look at the file, just as you would with your installed
anti virus program, if a person was just a little bit more concerned scan the temp and IE's cache,,if not the whole pc.

Mike and James have you ever used PepiMK's (SpyBots maker)
    User Assistant Data Viewer
I had just found it today > Imput please< what do you think ?
On this page near the bottom

    More files for pros...

I just found it and its quit disturbing what it see's
Not sure exactly where this is on pc or if its just a registry
or maybe a index.dat somewhere ,, if it could be edited or deleted
    http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=download

Here it shows what I think are called uniqe identifier numbers,
anyway two are shown with the tool and
    {75048700-ef1f-11d0-9888-006097deacf9}
looks like everthing ive ever installed and uninstalled an every link ever created
one this pc since day one

    {5e6ab780-7743-11cf-a12b-00aa004ae837}
Looks like a list of every favorite ive ever created or created and delted

    Regards
    Lonny

    Hi James
Its on the link or page above near the bottom click on
"More files for pros "... to expand it,,
PS I wouldn't try the other things there , there too old.

Someone said in there forum Spybot (if I understand correctly) SpyBot cleans these and are userdataassist entries within registry and after a cleanup> tracts <with SpyBot you can verify with data viewer ,if was open at the time exit and restart it

But I certainly see more there than could be cleaned up with SpyBot,
On win ME I cant let SpyBot clean/fix windows user tracts, not sure exactly which ones, or I lose personalized favorites
and even restoring doesn't fix so in the past I had used a system restore point to regain personalized favorites
OFF to tinker with this later tonight

O and as far as government websites and flash , adobe other , often the have very old stuff , I cant for instance even open some
PDFs Ive found ,, ours is updated as it can get ,, and the web site still tried to install there version, don't know what two versions would do except conflict . adobe isn't completely backward compatible , in other words the script they use to detect what you have installed is archaic and there forms , down loadables.
best might be best to try another GOV site,, watch out though theres lots of imposter's posing as the real thing..
So its best I think to when serching for offical site to search through something like google that doesnt get paid for the order in which they display results
    Lonny

    Hello Lonny,
I found the program you were talking about & downloaded it too, but I didn't see any help file associated with it. How exactly do you use "User Assistant Data Viewer" program?

    Hi James
Its just an exicutable,, no install. just click it then in its address bar(so to speak) there should be two choices to choose from..
    Its decription tool apperently

Since I had mentioned it at there forum ,PepiMK responded and said that reminds me I could (dont quote me) could intergrate it into RegAlyzer, so maybe If Im lucky he will and soon.
    Regards
    Lonny
