I am running W2K on a 1.7 mhz P4 with 256 ram. When I start aol 7.0, especially after using other programs such as quicken, IE6, word XP, I get the error "unexpected_kermel_mode_trap" and the computer reboots. The W2K knowledge base notes this happens with norton antivirus 2001 but doesn't mention AOL 7.0. I do run norton AV 2001, but it doesn't seem to be associated with this (if I inactivate it). Any thoughts?

    Welcome to the boards!
Is this the knowledge base article you are referring to?

    Hi again jsjb100
No, it doesn't address AOL. But does any of that article seem applicable? Is there a possibility of mismatched Ram?
What's the age of this system?
    Have you over clocked it?
Is this the exact stop code?

    HI Daizy

The system is a dell, less than one year old, all hardware seems in working order. I have not overclocked this system. As for the exact error...I am embarassed to report that I don't have the STOP code....when it happens again, I will note it and post it here. Thanks

    Hi again jsjb100
The exact code would be helpful yes, thank you.
Found another that uses AOL and gets this error . Perhaps do try to stop Norton from loading at start up....just to see if it helps?

    *edit*
    Andsimilar with Dell
