For some reason I am being bombarded with return mail that I haven't sent. This start about a week ago. Now about every two or three days my inbox fills up with all these undiverable messages of e-mail that I didn't send. I can't determine what is causing this to happen. I do have the always send a read receipt in the options turn on, but I am not sending any message to the addresses that I am receiving these notifications from. I plan to turn off this option to see what happen. But since I am not sending the messages I not sure if doing this will stop the bombardment. I have been using the internet and e-mail for years and I have never encounted anything like this. Anyone have any thoughts.

    Happy New Year

    Hi bobemartin

The first course of action is to run the free online virus scanner from Housecall to absolutely rule out virus activity. If that comes up clean.... a call to your ISP may be in order.

My best guess would be that someone you know has a virus on their system that is choosing your address from their address book as a fake "from: ". When this happens you will get the returned/undeliverable mail reply when the mail is sent to a "bad" address. This has nothing to do with your system or how your email program is set up. If this is the cause, it will stop when the virus chooses another address from their address book to use as "from: ", when they find and clean the virus or when the virus kills their system.

To be safe I would do a virus scan of my system with an updated anti virus program and also through an on line scan such as found at www.pcpitstop.com since some viruses will render an onboard anti virus program useless.

    Good luck!

    Hi again Bob
Did you make it through the virus scan?

Also, this doesn't have to be a virus on yours or your friends. It's a method that spammer's are using to get you to read it. Recommend using Mailwasher, you can preview the message at the server without opening it..

    e-mail

I did run the virus check from PC Pitstop. Nothing found. I suspect that spammer's may be my problem. However, since I turn off the receipt requested option I haven't received any more undeliverables. Don't know how long it will last, but for now things seem normal again. Whatever normal is in the PC world.

    Thanks for the help.

By the way anyone know anything about installing a hard drive by copying the old drive to the new drive with XP installed.

    Hi again bobemartin
Congratulations on getting it sorted for the time being.
It may be a good idea to start a new thread for the hard drive question?
