    Hi everyone.
I have a W2K domain with 2 DCs. I am thinking of using the AD for file-server purposes too, in an environment with DFS. One of the problems I am trying to deal with is the absence of an UNDELETE option.
Is there any way to salvage files that were deleted by mistake by users on the server?
Maybe a third-party tool? I preffer a free one, or a Microsoft one, but ...

    TIA.

This is a better-than-the-recycle-bin product that runs locally on the server.

Not positive if either of these utilities from sysinternals/winternals will trap network deletes but if so, they should do you nicely and are certainly less expensive. I've been impressed with every product from Mark Russinovich that I've ever tried.

    File Restore and Fundelete.

Otherwise, I'd say you are looking at either making frequent backups to tape or similar. That's the option we use but depending on the amount of data you are dealing with, it can get expensive.
