Unable to view .ART images

Since I have the new XP system I am unable to read .art images. I am trying so save images from the Internet. I am getting 'file' as the type and .art as the extension which is not being recognized. I tried changing the extension to .bmp before I saved it and that did not work.
Is there a specific software to use to view the .art images? Paint does not work, neither does Irfran viewer.
