unable to update avg [or Nero]

    i have avg free 8.0 version and now not able to update it. when clicked on update now it just says checking for updates but no progress even after a long time. all companents show as active except database outdated msg in the overview screen of user interface screen in avg. same problem with nero 7 essentials too.

    You should not instinctively assume that this is malware related as you are also unable to update non-security related software.

    Servers can be busy or down - how long has this problem existed?

    well in case of nero i tried updating and this time it went till finishing downloading files and finally crashed telling internal error. msi not working. but avg still not working. problem from past 3 days.

    IMO the Nero problem is related to a corrupted download or install - AVG - I can find no comment in their forums on server problems - have you tried manual download of the latest definitions?

    I have moved this to the Malware & Virus Removal forum - you may have to wait a day or so for a response as our trained analysists are extremely busy.
