Resolved Unable to uninstall sonic update manager for win xp

Hello,

When trying to remove Sonic Update Manager thru "Add/Remove Progs ", I get the following message:

"There's a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete couldn't be run. "


PS. I recently removed "Install Shield" from my computer. Can it be the cause ...?

 

You need both Windows Installer and Install Shield.

Since it mentions Windows Installer, have a quick look at these

Get the latest Windows Installer for Windows XP. You can check about error messages, but your exact quote did not bring up any hits. I might wonder if you have removed some or most of the Sonic Updater by uninstalling other parts of the Sonic program.

Go to the Sonic website, do some searches for the error message there.

I haven't tried to reinstall Install Shield (I don't think it is related to Windows Installer, but it will run along the same lines), but find out if you can re-install it. I don't know installers intimately, but I know Windows Installer is not the only one.

If you are doing a clean-up by uninstalling programs, be careful that the program isn't something you need.

I downloaded and ran isum_hotfix.exe and then was able to remove Sonic Update Manager thru "Add/Remove Programs "

I don't know that program (isum_hotfix.exe). Can you give us a link, if it is from one of the reputable suppliers please?
