Resolved unable to shut down PC

HI!
update kb976902 was just installed in my PC (Win 7) - I cannot shut down. I tried a restore back to Jan. 6, 2011 before this update was announced and shutting down proceeded OK. Tried the download and install again for this update, now still cannot shut down my PC. I'm not allowed to uninstall this update per Microsoft as it is needed for future update in Windows.
Any help would be appreciated.

Run through this fix:

1. Click on Start and type services.msc into the search box, then click on services in the box above. Scroll down the list to Windows Update, right click on it and select stop.

2. Click on the Start button and then copy and paste this command into the search box:

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution

Then click on "Software Distribution" in the box above and delete the entire contents of the "Download " folder. Do not delete the actual folder just its contents.

3. Go back and turn the Windows Update service back on.

4. Use this link: http://www.brothersoft.com/fix-wu-download-305003.html

Click on Click to Download next to Server 1 or 2. When the box pops up select Run so it will automatically install. Open the program and run the fix.

After that, reboot and then check for updates again.
