Hi and welcome to the BBS,

A (Windows) System Restore should not be detrimental to try. Read about System Restore in Help and Support.

Not being able to run visualisations is not drastic. It could possibly be a problem with WMP or maybe your graphics. Do you have any other problems occurring?

It might be a warning sign for you though, that the system or the hard disk drive can break down and you should have a backup for your data. Your HDD is going to stop working one day, that day could be tomorrow. Investigate backup systems, but remember that if you back up the whole system and it has problems, if you restore that system, it will have the same problems.

    Matt

    Start - Run - DXDiag

This should be able to show errors if are major on the graphics

but i suggest something stronger, and mor eprofessiona like : SiSoftsandra ( i think you can download a trial copy also )

Are you trying to run the standard visualisations or run downloaded ones. If you have downloaded some, recheck how to install them. I found it was a little tricky to get them installed. Downloaded visualisations are (usually) "home built" so may not work correctly. See if there are any FAQs at the WMP website at Microsoft.

Yes, dxdiag will have information about your graphics adapter and a few simple tests Edit: sorry, DirectX 10 does not have the simple tests they were in 9.0c.
