When I click in File to Save as, for an attachment coming in over OE6, it turns up in a folder called R6N77IJ4. If I remember to navigate upwards, it goes to Contact IE5, then Temporary internet Files, then Local settings, and then My documents, from which I can navigate down to the folder I want it to be in.
But sometimes, when I am not attentive, I forget this, and just agree to save with a title. And then can not remember every last character in the title.
Result? Document lost. I am unable to locate on my computer the first folder, or the intermediate ones. Of course I work with My Documents all the time.
How can I get to these few documents and move them where I want?
And, occasionally, a document that I created gets into the wrong folder. How does one move it where one wants?
My system: Windows XP with SP2. IE6. OE6. Word 2003. Dell Dimension desktop 3000.
    Thanks. ALK

An email with an attachment is flagged with a paper clip icon. If you have the Preview pane open the paper clip is at the right end of the header bar - clicking on the paper clip opens a small box showing the attachments and the option to 'Save Attachments'. Clicking on Save Attachments opens a dialogue box listing the attachments and a Save to box with a Browse button. Browse to the desired save location, select those attachments you want to save and click on Save.

If you open the email by double clicking on it the message opens in a new window with the attachment(s) listed - right click on the attachment > Save as and choose your location.

Using File > Save as from the main menu bar is not the right way to save attachments - I hope I have not misinterpreted your 'click in File to Save as'.
Go to the 'wrong' folder, right click on the document > Cut. Navigate to the desired folder, right click in a blank area of the window > Paste. You can also highlight the document and use the Move To or Copy To buttons on the main icon bar (if they are showing).
If you know the file extension - *.doc, *.pdf, etc search for that type of file.

ALK--Now that you are aware of the problem, you should be more attentive the next time you save an OE attachment. :) I suggest you create a folder just for this purpose and put all saved files there in the future.
But how to find the attachments already saved?
Depending on your email service, you may find some of those emails still on their server. (I assume you have deleted the email, and can no longer just open it and Save the attachment again.) Look in OE Tools|Accounts|Properties|Advanced tab to see how many days your server is saving emails. (You will probably have to access the website of the email supplier to download/view these emails again.)
    If no luck there:
OE's right click|Save As window should open in the same place you saved the last OE attachment. So with luck you should be able to find that one. With even more luck you might find several.
However, for those files still not found, you can use the Start|Search function on WinXP. The more you can remember about the name of the file and/or its file type (.exe, .jpg, .wav, etc) the better. You enter that into the
"All or part of File Name" line. (Use * as a wildcard to fill in parts you are not sure about.) You will probably get an awful lot of hits, but it may be worth the effort. And in the left panel don't overlook the double arrow button next to "When was it modified?" to choose a date. (In MS speak, modified also means first written to the hard drive--or saved.) Depending how far back you go, that could narrow the number of hits.
If you can remember nothing about name or file type, use the "When was it modified?" option and put * into the "All or part of File Name" line.
The number of hits will be very large, but if the file is important, it may be worth wading through the hits.

EDIT--PeteC must have beat me by a millisecond, but I think we have covered substantially different territory.
P.S. I do not quite understand the part about the files being saved in the wrong folder. They should be saved in the folder indicated in the "Save in" line of the Save As window.

I've been known to do the exact same thing. Lots of times. Still doing it.

My solution was to download Agent Ransack which is a much better file-search tool than the one Microsoft inculdes with Windows Explorer. In addition to being lots faster, it presents a check-box on the main page for searching files added/changed that day. I can usually find the 'missing' files pretty quickly and then put them where I really wanted them.
