When trying to do a clean install on my system I get as far as installing files when a screen comes up and says that the files needed for the install are not found. This happens when booting from the Vista DVD or starting the install from the desk top. It reverts to the existing installation. I know the Vista discs are good as it is the copy that I did the original install from. This is a very early Vista program and I was wondering if it not having SP1 was the cause. If so how do I fix it?

    Thanks

    Jeff

A couple specs of dust on the DVD or the DVD drive can cause this. Can use a canned of comressed air to blow the dust out of the drive.

Blew out both drives and cleaned disc. Same results as above.

Have you ever used this copy before and know it was burned well?

Did you try the original DVD?

I am sorry it is the original DVD. I have used it a year ago to do a repair and a reinstall. It is the one used to do the first install.

    Thanks

I'd boot off the DVD, format & reinstall instead.

Just what steps do I need to go through to do that?

    Thanks
