    I have a HUAWEI E160 3G/EDGE USB Modem plugged in my hp Compaq nx6310 laptop running Windows XP SP3.
    I can connect to the internet, send & receive email in MS Outlook 2007, send and receive text messages using the modem software.
    The software has a dialer. I am trying to make voice calls with no success. There is ringing tone fine (for both incoming and outgoing call attempts) - but that is as far as it goes - when I "pick" I do not hear the other party, neither do they hear me.
    I would like to rule out the possibility of faulty headset because I successfully make voice calls using NYMGO and Skype. I can listen to music, I have recorded sound using Windows Movie Maker.
    What settings do I need to make?

    My (albeit limited) experience with these types of modem is that they generally do not have voice capabilities and the specifications listed here would appear to confirm that.

    I'm curious as to how you are able to hear the ringing tone though, what version of software are you using?

    As I posted that device does not appear to have voice abilities:

    @Wildfire
    Thanks
    I think ringing is just signaling - it is not a component of the voice call. Just thinking. Any telecom engineers out there?
