Unable to make SATA HDD 'system' disk

    Hello

    I'm seeking guidance here on something that continually baffles me and about which I've unsuccessfully searched and failed to get any help so far.

    Why is it that if, with a SATA HDD installed as the only disk (and, therefore, as both 'active' and 'system'), I then install a PATA disk on IDE channel 1 with jumper set to 'cable select' (not 'master'), the PATA disk takes the SATA disk's place - becoming Disk 0, system disk?

    I want to be able to choose myself which of the two disks shall be the system disk but - seemingly - WinXP won't allow me to do this but always gives the PATA disk priority. Is there some way I can assert control here?

    Might want to check the boot sequence in the BIOS.
