I'm having trouble with Windows XP machines not logging off or shutting down after installing IE7...
Click Start/logoff or shutdown and it asks "Are you sure?" click "Yes" and NOTHING

a look at the event viewer after a log off attempt says:

    Source: USER32
    User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
    Computer: WESTTECH

    Description:
The attempt to unknown WESTTECH failed

    Can anyone help me out???
    Thanks,
    Koree

    Hi koree and welcome,

Best way out is to uninstall IE7 since it will revert back to ver. 6. Then if you still want to do the quality control for MS, try upgrading again after killing all running processes that aren't necessary for Windows operation. Safe mode might even be a good method if you can DL the IE7 update file.

The uninstaller for IE7 will be found in the Windows folder or look in Control Panel under add/remove programs, being sure to tag the box that allows updates to be shown.

Frankly, I've seen and tried IE7 and I rolled back to IE6. I don't think 7 is for me at this time.

    Hello Koree,

Read thru this thread on the installation of IE7:

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=58671

As SD2 mentioned, all programs that potentially stop IE7 from writing to the Registry should be disabled, and if you're running Zone Alarm, depending on the version, has to unininstalled.

    Regards - Charles
