I can't log in to Google, and I can't recover my password.

The problem is that my cell phone became bricked and unusable. I got a new phone and when I tried to log in to Google from it, I discovered the password I remembered was incorrect.

When I try to recover the password, Google tries to send it to the defunct cell phone. I am unable to do anything on Google now without a working password.
Seems to be a Catch 22.

Is there anyway to get "live" help on Google?

    Thanks Retiredlearner

Still a problem for me as I don't even know what method I used to first log into Google. I can't even kill my account, since it requires my password.

Guessing that the phone is an Android. Are you using the email icon or the gmail icon to access your mail? The gmail one is the one you should be using.

Did you ever access the gmail account from a pc and maybe the pc remembers it?

Yes Steve, it is a new android phone. The old one is trashed beyond repair. It had a protected file with all my passwords... not on the sd card, now gone forever. My pc logs on to Chrome automaticaly. Wish I knew how to get in the stored password file.

My main concern is being able to log in to Playstore.

Duh! OK, I get it now, you were talking about Google's page, not BBS. Yes I went there. As I said, recovery depends on a phone # that is no longer valid. No way to change that without the correct password. Again, catch 22.

Thanks. Found 3 passwords for Google. Unfortunately all 3 were rejected. I recognized them as being quite old. One message I ran across while trying to sort all this out said that my password changed about a year ago. Ah well.

Yes, I have been through that before. It is pretty easy. The big problem is that they want to send the recovery information to an old phone # that is no longer available. There just doesn't seem to be anyway around that.

I could completely remove my Google account and try to sign up for a new one hoping they wouldn't pick up my old settings. Trouble is I would lose so much information associated with my account, including some apps I have paid for. Then they might tell me that the email account I use has already been used and not available to set up Google. It really ***** that one can't contact Google.

Thanks for all your help. I appreciate the time you have taken.

There are other options once you get far enough.

    1. Go to Gmail's Password Recovery.

    2. Select "I forgot my password ".

    3. Click the "password assistance page" link.

    4. Type in your Gmail email address and click "Submit ".

    5. Click "Continue ".

    6. Fill in an answer to the question and click "Continue" or click "I don't remember ".

    7. Type in another email address (twice) where they can contact you if necessary.

    8. Type in the last password you remember, select the Month, Day, and Year you were last able to sign into your Google Account, select the Month and Year when you created your Google Account and click "Continue ".

    9. Answer the question "What was your first teacher's name" and click "Continue ", or, click "Skip this question ".

    10. Type in up to five frequently emailed contacts, the name of up to four Labels (that you used in Gmail), the first recovery email address you remember and click Continue, or, click "Skip this questions ".

    11. Etc., etc., etc. . . .

    12. When you've finally answered enough questions correctly to satisfy their algorithm, one of the options that will pop-up will be to send a password recovery link to the "another email address" you filled out "twice" above.

Note: If you don't have another email address, go to Outlook.com and open one. It's free.

This worked perfectly. I didn't have to answer any of the security questions at all. They just immediately sent a new password link to my Yahoo mail account which I listed in step 6. I have a new password that works and it was all so easy.

    Again... Thank you so much.
