    Hi nebbe and welcome.

I don't use Vista but have you tried using an account with administrative rights during the install?

If so I'll step back and let other more experienced users step in.

Hi nebbe. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Have you shut down all backround programs that are running in the system tray to avoid any conflicts with the installation? Have you tried right clicking the Windows messenger installer and selecting run as administrator?

Hi snowman22. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Please do not hijack someone elses thread. If you are having an issue with your computer start a new thread in the correct forum.

About your Windows Messenger issue, try uninstalling Windows Messenger from Control Panel< Add/Remove Programs. After Windows Messenger is uninstalled download a new copy from here. See if Windows Messenger installs now.
