Although Windows detects a printer, the "Found new hardware" wizard won't install it. Although the computer doesn't "freeze up ", the Wizard just stops and I have to use "end task" to close it. I am also unable to get the install program on the printer CD to run. Tried 2 different printers - HP deskjet 895 and an HP 960C - same problem with both. Printer CD's are O.K. and Windows can list the files on them.

When I try to go to the Printer folder (Start/settings/printers) nothing happens - the folder doesn't open.

    • Is your Windows 2000 box a standalone or part of a workgroup or domain?
    • If you're part of a domain, could there be a group policy prohibiting software/hardware installation or viewing the printers folder?
    • Do you have administrative rights to your workstation?
