My computer meets all the minimum requirements for IE5.5. Basically I have Win95, 133MHz, 360 free memory on HD, DSL 32Meg RAM. I am using Navigator 4.75 but need IE5.5 to use Turbotax 2001 Deluxe.
The following occurs when trying to install IE5.5

    1) I get the following error message "Internet Explorer & Internet tools file on your computer are not the correct files for your Operating System. Setup will now download the the correct files from the internet." Then the following message appears. Iam connected to the internet via Navigator when this message appears.

    2) "Setup unable to download the required components. Please make sure you are connected to the internet ". As stated above I was connected to the internet.

I need your help to surpass this obstacle.

    Thanks John M.

Turbo Tax says it needs IE 5.5 so you can use the TurboTax online tax filing feature. And to get updated tax info for the program. The install program does not give any option to keep your existing browser.

I found out the hard way when I installed Turbo Tax. It automatically installed IE 5.5, which I did NOT want installed.

I had to uninstall 5.5 and then reinstall 5.01 SP2.

How to install Turbo Tax withoutIE 5.5:

Copy all of the Files from the CD to your hard drive.
    Delete the IE 5.5 folder.
    Run the install program.
TTax will give an error message re 5.5 but the rest of the program will install correctly.

If you want updated info for the program such as new tax forms, go to intuit.com and download them.

    IE5.5

TonyT you solved my problem with TurboTax. For some reason I never found the manual update download on the Intuit web site. Thanks.

But now. I would still like to install IE5.5 for other reasons. As stated I get the following message when installing IE5.5

"Internet Explorer & Internet tools files on yourcomputer are not the correct files for your OS. Setup will now download the correct files from the internet "
"Setup unable to download the required components. Please make sure you are connected to to the internet ". I was connected to the internet on Navigator when this last message received.

Any suggestions? Post this request on the Windows BBS also?

Thanks again as at least I can now start TT with the lates update and have the date for the next update.

    IE5.5 Will Not Install

George: Thanks for the links. I also noticed the tip "stay connected when loading ".
Again I get the message "setup unable to download the required components. Please make sure you are connected to the web."
A foolish thought. Navigator now my default browser. If I remove it as the default will this make a difference. But now another question. I looked for the default option for Navigator and cannot find.
    Will appreciate any further help.
    Thanks John M.
