I am working on a friend's laptop which which had just come back from Dell. it haf a new motherboard and bottom chassis replaced . Ir needed a new hard drive but they had none in stock so they shipped the hard drive seperately. had to install and set up the hard drive. I then had a Dell Tech check it out for errors I may have made. Everything checked out OK and it was working fine until last night when I lost connection to the internet. Dell will not help me with this since it is a software problem, Ir seems that I have lost the gateway IP address and do not know what to do now. I did a system restore first which didn't help. I tried ipconfig/all and got nothing. Reset my router and modem with no luck. I have 3 other laptops working on my network with no problems. The broke one worked for a day with out problems, I can get a local connection, my signal strength is strong,
This is an Inspiron laptop with Vista 32 and DSL internet wireless.
Any help would be appreciated, I promised to return on Sunday if possible, everything was going well.
    Thanks,
    Dee

Dee, you may want to edit your Post heading as I would be worried about State Troopers knocking on the door. Neil.

Nothing at all, no error, no response simply a command prompt? The more information you supply the better we can help. What gateway (ip address of your router) are your other systems using?

Although this sounds like a networking issue I'm wondering if it's really a hardware/driver problem. Does the wireless NIC show up in Device manager?

It was a software issue, I accidentally enabled something and I don't what and it is working. I wish I could have looked intelligent and taken credit for it but it was purely accidental.
Thanks for everybody's help. Case closed
