Unable to Download

    Unable to download in Firefox, error message C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCAL~1\
    Temp\97ci8er7.zip could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. Have tried to remove COMPREG.DAT as suggested by Romona but this file not on folder, and other suggestions to no avail. This file only in Thunderbird. Thanks, Denis Alexander.

    The download manager problem should not exist in Firefox, because it is possible to remove all information about downloads from the preferences (Tools|Options|Privacy|Download History). The options are to clear the history on successful download or manually, as well as a button to clear the download history. Presumably, if the setting is to clear manually, but no clearing is done there clould be a problem.
    Since there is no information about the file, other that it is a .zip file, I would say that you should try to set things up the way I said. And, may be it is not a proper .zip file.

    Have set history to clear auto and cleared history file, still same problem.

    I never had this problem, but you may have some difficulties if the Temp folder, which you mentioned before is full of files. Check it, and dump everything. As for your download location, you should select it in a way that you can readily see. I download to the Desktop, and, after I unzip the file, I manually delete it.
    Also, I don't know what settings you went after, because I cannot find anything like you describe in either FF1.0.7 or 1.5. I am talking about download history, not history. By the way which version Firefox do you use?
    Finally, is it just that file, or other files which cannot be downloaded.

    I had the same problem. It was caused by the history folder being "read only ". Check your history folder properties and if "read only" is checked, uncheck it.

    You should find it in your Profile folder.
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\****.default\history.DAT
    Also, you may need to set the save history setting (Tools>Options>Privacy>History) to a number higher than 0.

    I think I have found the problem. I have been using Star Downloader for 2 yrs with no probs. Tried Internet Exp and could download OK. But have just upgraded my Firefox and believe that the upgrade in not compatable with Star downloader. So will use IE as my browser. Thanks for the help.
