This is similar, but not the same, as message posted a week or two ago by Lochinvar.
System: Windows98SE. OE6. Problem emerged today for first time. <Delete> will not respond to remove unwanted messages. Button on bar lights up red as it should. No error messages. Tried <Delete> on Edit menu; tried ctr + D, and also Move on Edit menu, and they did not work. When I click on Delete folder in list of folders, it does not open to show list of messages previously transferred.
    Would appreciate suggestions.

Seek out and destroy the file called Deleted Items.dbx

It's the file that holds the delete mail. It'll get recreated next time you delete a mail.

    Dear Steve:
Thank you for your advice. I did as you suggested, and the file Deleted Items.dbx was found at once, and deleted. However, there is no change in the problem. I am unable either to open the folder, <Deleted Items> nor get any new messages to transfer to it, nor clean it out. Have you any further suggestions?
    Thank you very much
