Couldn't find any help with "search" .
My cut & paste quit working, and not sure exactly when or after what. I did a reboot, and ran sfc /scannow, (didn't find anything). What's next? Thanks

Thanks for the tip. I've already been there.
I ran chkdsk, and it found no errors. I ran task manager and couldn't find rdpclip.exe. Can't seem to find it anywhere on my cpu. Do I simply just try to reload that file? Where should I get it? Thanks

How are you trying to cut and paste? There are many ways. For example, Ctrl + X and Ctrl +V. Or right click Cut then right click Paste.

In all programs or just some? For example, some pdf files will not let you copy/cut text.

Thanks for the reply. I always have used the mouse as it seemed much easier for me. I haven't tried it outside of my e-mail program (thunderbird), and I only use it there to cut and paste e-mail addresses to blocked senders options and message source info to spamcop.
It's always worked just fine, just started not working this morning. Doesn't work with Crtl X or V.

And what about in Word or a Notepad doc? Or while entering text in your forum text box?

And how is it not working? Can you highlight the text? What about Copy and Paste?

I feel kind of foolish. I meant copy & paste. I can highlight it, and copy, but it won't paste. When right clicking, I get both the copy and paste options, but I'm not sure which one is not working. I don't have Office.

And again what about trying to paste your copied test in to a Notepad doc, or here? Can you copy and paste here at all?

This was a copy and paste from my last reply, so it works here. Isn't .doc an Office file? And I don't have Office. Just found out that it works in my wife's e-mail account, so the issue must be in my account.

Thanks for all of the help. I'm going to mark this as solved as I'm beginning to think that it's a quirk with Thunderbird and not a Windows issue.

.doc files may have started out with Word, but many file editor programs support it.

I am glad we at least narrowed it down, and it is not an across the board, Windows problem. Not sure why only your T-Bird account would be affected and not all of T-Bird. I wonder if it affects all emails in your inbox.

I note there is a Thunderbird support forum. Maybe someone there can help. If you do get a solution there, please come back here and post it. It might save another reader here some grief - or at least be a learning experience for us.

Thanks again Bill. I have posted it to The Thunderbird Support Forum. I'll definitely post whatever I find there.

You don't mention what version of Mozilla Thunderbird you are using?
My version is 78.3.1 (64bit) and I do not have any problems with copy/paste.

Thought I had the latest: 68.12.1 32 bit. I'll have to look for the version that you have. Thanks

P.S. Looks like the 78 version is scheduled for automatic updates soon, and Mozilla recommends waiting until it's available via automatic updates. I could update now?

This laptop is running version 68.12.1 (32bit) and does not have the problem.
I have been subscribing to Mozilla TB & FF for at least 15 years and have been on Beta and Release 32bit & 64bit between my comps.

You are probably on 32bit - so just wait till an update comes to you.
Make sure you refer to the 32bit and 64bit reference when checking versions and always download from Mozilla.;)

I've always updated when I get the notice to. Not sure why I have 32 instead of 64 bit though. Should that be something I should upgrade to along with the 78 version? Thanks

Well, here's some additional interesting info. I was using copy and paste attempting to "process" a spam e-mail. I copy message source details and forward to spamcop. Then copy the e-mail address and enter it in Spectrum's block sender feature as well as in a message filter in Thunderbird. All things I've done before without incident. I tried to do the same with 2 spam e-mails I received this morning, and everything worked as usual. I tried it with the spam e-mail from a couple of days ago, and it didn't work.

So now maybe the computer gurus here might have an idea as to why that particular e-mail didn't respond as all of the others have? I guess that particular e-mail was my issue all along.

This read should explain differences between 32 bit and 64 bit TB.

AFAIK the main difference with PC's running 32bit OS is the limitation of RAM that can be utilized.
64bit OS PC's can use in excess of 3GB's of RAM which is the amount that 32bitsystems can handle.

Most new PC's and motherboards are built with 64bit capability as the more RAM that is available - the faster the comp will work.
This is all in conjunction with the newer CPU's and SSD's and the need for speed in operation.

Some one with more expertise than little old me may be able to explain it better, but I hope you get the idea.

I did some reading from your link, and it seems like I can't upgrade the 68.12.1 to 64 bit. It offers the upgrade to the new 78 version 64 bit. So I'm thinking that I'll just wait until I get the update from Mozilla. Hopefully it will be in 64 bit. Also, on Mozilla's website, it offers the downloads in 2 versions. I'm guessing that the Widows link is an .exe file, and the Windows MSI contains the Windows installer. My reading tells me that the MSI is the better way to go. Agree? Thanks again for all of the help.

If you click on the link provided on Scotties page ( First, go to the Thunderbird homepage.) - it will open at Thunderbird's new website.
If you click on the Download - it is 78.3.1.exe which will install over your existing 32bit TB without any hassles.
You will still have 32bit TB!!

If you follow Scotties suggestion and open > Systems and Languages > (Language) click on Windows 64bit > Save the Download (your choice where).
Open the Download and follow the instructions.
It will install over your existing 32bit TB (if installed) and will be the new 64bit TB.
It may also update almost immediately to version 78.3.2 (64bit).
.exe contains the msi (MicroSoft Installer) so don't bother with the Windows 64bit MSI download.

I have just completed this action on my earlier HP laptop which was running TB 32bit and all works sweet as. ;)

Thanks again. It's like I'm looking at a different web page than you are. Both links in Thunderbird appear to take me to the same file: 78.3.2exe. But the file size is slightly different. 47.3 or 48.9. Both links look to be 64 bit. I think I should just download once, and everything should be OK?
