I don't feel comfortable running my 4 internal SATA drives as IDE and would like to use AHCI.

However when AHCI is enabled in BIOS the computer will not boot showing the message ....
This is the equivalent I guess of .....

Error message when you start a Windows 7 or Windows Vista-based computer after you change the SATA mode of the boot drive: "STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE "

but the solution fails to work ....
The Value data box is already set to 0.

Msahci.sys is on the system, but the location/description is worrying ....

    C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\mshdc.inf_amd64_neutral_a69a58a4286f0b22\msahci.sys.

    C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_mshdc.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_392d19c13b3ad543\msahci.sys

I have an Intel i7 processor.

Any thoughts on this? - another reference I found suggests that enabling ACHI in BIOS prior to installing Windows 7 solves the problem. I may do this anyway as the dual boot with XP is causing some problems I think.

Thanks, hawk. I didn't come across that thread in my searches.....
That probably says it all, but I'm still puzzled as to why I can't do it when the registry setting is correct.

Gues I have enough other problems to lose sleep over and best to let this one drop :)

    Hi PeteC
When I put together my 2008 build - Abit mobo - (see "My System ") it required a very restricted procedure when initially installing OS, drivers, and BIOS settings. During this process I needed to change settings in BIOS between different driver loads. If not, OS would not load. For my mobo, their was no reg. edit fix.
