I am trying to boot into Active@Boot Disk from USB stick after 1st setting BIOS to boot from USB.

The message I get is from Windows Boot Manager :-

Windows failed to start (repair your computer, etc)
    File: \Boot\BCD
    Status: 0xc000000e
Error occurred while attempting to read boot configuration data.

I am running a dual boot system with XP on C: and Windows 7 on D: , both on the same physical disk.
I know the USB stick is OK because I can boot from it on my laptop which also is dual boot (XP and Ubuntu).

    Has anyone any suggestions please.

I think you are right. On the desktop the dual boot is controlled by Windows Boot Manager which is Windows 7. On the laptop dual boot is controlled by Grub which is Linux (Ubuntu) and presumably more cooperative.

Thanks for trying to help but this does not solve the problem. It isn't a matter of life or death because I can still boot to Active Boot Disk via CD, it's just that I thought someone might have the answer.
