Unable to add printer to win xp machine. RPC server not available

    i am getting this warning on win xp machine, when try to add HP Laserjet 1020 printer to xp machine. RPC server not available. when i check the status of RPC server, its already running. i have enable RPC Locater service to run also. but it didnt work out

    the printer was working fine when the issue popup today. first the printer spooler service wasnt running. i copied the spoolsv.exe file from winxp cd and isntalled it again. now i am getting this RPC warning

    Changing the spoolsv.exe file has led to other problems. Can you replace the original file? If yes, then I would look at why the spooler service was not working

    Then it might just be a matter of resetting the spooler, rather than replacing the spooler file.

    You don't say how it is connected (LTP port, USB or even over the network).

    It might have HP software installed which runs the printer, rather than the Windows printing system. If HP software is installed, changing Windows files could result in the errors you are finding. If HP software is installed, you will see listings in Start -> All Programs, then you might need to look at uninstalling and reinstalling it (see those search results).
