It appears that I don't have any java installed? I don't want that monster piece of bloated software anyway. Is there a way to check cable speed without Java? Or just a small java app I can install?

    Thanks Again

rockit--I am afraid you will need to have Java installed to use that speedtest site.
Here is a site to test whether you have Java installed.
    http://www.albany.net/~rubergd/example1.html
And here is where you can get the latest version of Java from Sun
    http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
However, there are lots of other speedtests. Here is one. Cannot guarantee that it does not also require Java.
    http://www.numion.com/
And here is a list of others
    http://modemsite.com/56k/speedtest.asp

HOWEVER, that redX bothers me. Is that the only site where this happens? I never thought about Java being connected to the redX--ActiveX, yes, but not Java.
There are plenty of reasons for the redX.
    For starters

    Thanks Guy's
I tried adding the site to the trusted sites list and it still won't load correctly. I finally went to PCPitStop and used their online test and it works fine. One thing .. I installed their fix for security and now when I boot up I get the error:

"Your Current Security Settings Prohibit Running Active X Controls On This Page "

    Any Idea's?
    Thanks Allot

Rockit--A description of ActiveX and ActiveX controls.
    http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/A/ActiveX_control.html
You, as the PC user, do not consciously install ActiveX.
However, when you are viewing certain websites or running certain programs (like Windows Update), you need to allow ActiveX controls (which are part of the content of the sites) to run. Often you will see the RedX if your security settings block the running of ActiveX and the site will not function, or images on the site will not appear. That is why PeteC suggested you put the http://speedtest.chartermi.net/ site into Trusted Sites, since by default ActiveX controls are permitted to run on sites in Trusted Sites. I did not suggest that since I was able to reach http://speedtest.chartermi.net/ even though I have Disabled ActiveX from running, so I knew the issue was not an ActiveX problem.
Hard to comment on the Pitstop problem until you provide more info.

For the record the settings in Arie's Surf Safely work fine for me. Take a look if you haven't done so already.
