I'm looking for a router (wi-fi 802.11g) with a firewall that will enable me to block specific ports on individual workstations. For example, I want to block ports that popular chat programs use on my daughter's computer while keeping them open on other computers in the house. I know I can do this with a software firewall, but I know that hardware firewalls are more secure and I want to have different ports accessable on many different computers. I know there are routers out there with this capability, I just don't know which ones they are. Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Aaron

I use a Netgear, and like it. Most any good one has those options.

    Netgear

I use a Netgear Wireless router now and it does not support blocking individual ports at all let alone different ports for different PCs.

Sounds more like you need a proxy server. I tried to dig up some links but having search troubles right now but there are free apps out there that can easily do exactly what you want.

Newt, any suggestions? What programs might I use for this (preferably that require a password or some other security device so my kids can't change the settings)?

Also, do you know of any apps out there (prefferably free :) ) that will allow me to open/close different ports for different users on on the computer?

Not ignoring you but having internet search issues again. It was fine until about 10 minutes ago. *(^%%&* anyway.

Do a google search for free proxy server software and you should turn up some possibles.

If I ever get searching working I'll do the same.
