I am unable to send mail. I use Eudora 8.0.0b3 (Thunderbird/Mozilla). Two days ago I switched from AT&T DSL service to AT&T U-Verse. At that point, my outgoing mail failed. The error message: "Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.att.yahoo.com timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator. "

My outgoing server is "smtp.att.yahoo.com ". I have tried Port 25 and Port 465. I have it set to "STARTTLS if available" and have not checked "Use secure authentication. "

    Any thoughts?

    spannaus: Welcome to the BBS!

Try changing the port to 995. That works for me, and I'm on U-Verse, too, although I use SeaMonkey rather than Eudora.

Get back to us with your results, please.

Sorry - that didn't fix it. I changed outoing port to 995 with no change. Still get same error message. Thanks for trying!

My mistake. The outgoing port should be 465, as you had it before. Sorry.

Several months ago I changed a program or something in my wife's laptop and she suddenly had the same problem you're having. I tried everything -- changing ports, usernames, you name it -- nothing worked. Then I noticed a typo in one of the e-mail client's configuration settings. Correcting that fixed the problem. It's a wild shot, but give your settings a careful eyeballing to see if the problem is as simple as that.

Or maybe somebody else will enter into this with a better idea.

Thanks again for your help. I've checked for typos - none there. See, it was working fine with the DSL service. Something about the changeover to U-verse messed it up. Let's see if someone else had the same issue.

This is a great forum by the way!

    Problem solved! Thank you.
The trick was to check "SMTP - Over SSL" and not to check "Use Secure Authentication "
