    1. (after I formated this weekend) After start up, if I run my internet connection, before it gives me the option to connect, it locks up for about a minute, explorer won't open, nothing, but the mouse moves. Then after that minute, it gives the window to connect. What's wrong? And how do I fix it?

    2. Is Windows 2000 compatible with Madrake Linux 8.1? And if so, who do I network the two?

    1. Details please. How are you connecting and what software is trying to run.

    2. No earthly idea. Sorry. If you can find a discussion board for that flavor of Nix, I suspect the answer will already be in their archives though.

I'm connecting using the Iternet Wizard, I'm not running any software since it isn't a winmodem, just plain ole 3com 56k modem. I noticed it's not only my dail-up connection, if I try to open anything within about a minute after boot up, it will temp. lock up. Any clue?

Lee - I doubt it is really "locking up" at startup. Usually what will be happening is services and/or applications are starting and the CPU is maxed out so anything else you want to do seems not to work.

There are several ways to monitor what is happening during startup but they aren't particularly simple and if you aren't having problems other than a couple minutes delay when you start your system, I wouldn't worry about it. In fact, I usually leave my machines running 7x24 unless I plan to be gone for a week or something.

I used to have it on 24/7 with no problems, but I have Linux on it now, and I do things in there, so obviously I have to leave Windows. The thing is though, before I formated it never did that, but oh well, I guess I wont worry about it :) If I can wait for Linux to take 3 mins to boot up, then I guess I can wait an extra 30 secs for Windows :) Thanks.
