I have acquired a used computer with 40g of hard drive ,512 mb ram.
The problem this computer came with windows 2000. I loaded XP home
and every thing workes fine. However,I now have both of the systems
and would like to eliminate windows 2000. What did I do, and can I chang it?

    You have two obvious choices,

    1. You can boot to XP and manually delete all of the files associated with the 2K system and then edit the 2K loader line out of the boot.ini file so the dual boot option is no longer offered.

    2. You can reinstall XP but this time choose to delete the existing system partition and create a new one. That will wipe all files from the drive and install XP cleanly. You'll lose 2K in the process and all other files that you don't back up.

Suferdude, Thanks for the reply. I must re access my knowledge level.
Your #1 idea ,if I go to xp how do I delete the files on 2000.
Then edit the 2ooo out of the boot?
This may be beyond my level but thanks anyway:confused:

If you have any doubts, option #2 is the way to go. Option #1 is not for the faint of heart and may require some hot licks not normally familiar to the less experienced user. If your computer is recently acquired, as you intimated, I would recommend option #1.

backup files in somewhere other than hard drive.
Format the drive the Windows that are running, normally are C: and D:
Reinstall XP SP2(i recommend). And enjoy.

my idea is similar to option #2
since i m kind of new to pc. u should try the more experience people's idea. ^^
