I have a new laptop with windows vista. I cant connect to the internet because the network connections window is show two connections. I only have one connection. i have my wireless disabled, but two connections are still popping up. I cant delete just one and if I disable the network card, both are gone. Once I enable it, they both come back up. I can get on the net via wireless, but it isn't my wireless network. Can anyone figure this out for me. I will attach a pic of the screen shot.

    Hi Psycho,
you are trying to link wirelessly?, my netgear modem shows as your screen shot, but as "netgear" that is the handler for the modem, have you set up an ssid & encryption for your network as yet, if you have; you'll find it also listed, read through your manual for your wireless system for a better understanding
    regards Jac

Not trying to connect wireless. I disconnect my i internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) and it works. Why do I have to disable this for it to work. Sometimes I would have to go disable the IPv4, and reenable for it to connect to the internet. This is strange
    Thanks

Make sure you loaded the drivers for your hardware. You should not ever have to disable IPv6 nor IPv4 for things to work!

This is a new computer, everything loaded and working fine except for the ipv6 and 4. Thats exactly what i have to do, when i disable ipv4, it shuts down the network card. When I reenable it, it connects direct to the internet.

Try resetting TCP/IP by entering netsh int ip reset in an elevated command prompt. After it completes, reboot the PC.

    I assumed you'd know

Press the Win key; type cmd; press Ctrl+Shift+Enter; and then hit Alt+C to confirm the elevation prompt.

Experienced, not expert. Some thing experienced doesn't know, especially if they never had to use it. I got it a different way, right click command prompt, run as administrator. Thanks anyway, but it didn't fix the problem.

I'd contact the manufacturer, since this is a new laptop.

Ah, sorry, didn't realize. If I find any info I post it here, but I've never come across this before.

Let's go back to basics. Can you do a ipconfig /all and post the output. The easiest way to do that is to run this at the cmd prompt:

    ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt

That will cause the output from ipconfig to be entered into a text file called ipconfig.txt.

Your screen shot suggests you have a linksys router. Is this correct? If so, what is the Linksys router connected to?
