Would it be possible to have 2 high speed connections on the same computer if I had a 2nd LAN card and then use one just for web browsing and one for all the other stuff (email, chat)?

It beats me why one connection is not enough, but it is to some extent a Windows thing. I would go to the cable or DSL provider for feasability.

shadowhawk - yes, sorta, maybe, if you do things just so.
    - buy two accounts with a different modem for each
    - buy two accounts using static addressing (if your ISP offers the option).

But not sure what benefit you'd see. The slowest network card you can get is at least 10 times faster than any broadband connection a home user would likely be able to afford. So the single card could handle all the internet traffic and never get out of idle speed.

Well I aint really gonna do it. It's just one of my many idle curiosities. I figured a Web-only connection would be faster than one shared by the Web browser, email program, IM programs, etc.

I have many idle curisioties, like what would happen to Windows if you deleted all the registry entries for the Start Menu and Taskbar. Stuff like that.

It would be faster IF you were hitting all of them heavily at the same time.

In theory it would be faster all the time but in practice, the difference isn't anything you'd be able to notice.

May I strongly suggest that if you do not now run Roxio's GoBack, you invest in the app soonest. :D

LOL XP has system restore. I can use that if anything goes wrong.
