I just bought and installed a Uninterruptible Power Supply. According to the supplied software (UPS Commander) it is attached to Com1.

I checked the properties of my external modem. It is also attached to Com1. Is this possible?

Everything is working fine. I tested the UPS by switching off the power at the wall. It detected the the cut in power and said it is shutting down the system in 60 seconds. I turned the power back on 45 seconds later and it detected it and aborted the shutdown. Strange, huh??

if everything is working fine, I would not worry about it. The only time you would encounter a problem is when they are both using the same resource and would conflict. Have you tried using the modem(go online) with the ups connected yet to see if you get any problems? If there are no issues I believe you are ok.

    kiddk,

Yes, I'm online now and the ups is on too. No problems, no conflicts.

The control window in the ups software itself says it is using Com 1 (if it can be believed). When I went to Device Manager, I can't find the ups device anywhere. Checked the Com Port numbers and it says com 1, 2 & 3 are in use. Sounds logical as I have external modem, ups & internal modem.

Tried using AIDA32 to look for the ups, no success. So, in fact, I don't have any second opinion as to which Com port the ups is really using, but I know I physically connected it to Com 2.
