Just installed IE6.0 and it's critical updates, now my shortcut arrows on the desttop icons reverted to the regular arrow from the light arrow and when I go to control panel TweakUI and attempt to change it back to the light arrows and hit apply all of the icons refresh, but remain with the regular arrows. I seem to remember this happening before after a critical update, but forgot how to resolve the problem. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Marvin

Thanks, Brett, used the 2nd method and so far windows update has not prompted me to install the critical update again.

I recently had the same problem. I had refrained from updating the shell chache thing and it kept reminding me. When I updated, sure enough the shortcut arrows were back. There is a free utility from Fresh Devices called Fresh UI. It works much like the old TweakUI worked but better. It will remove the shortcut arrows without tweaking the registry (well it probaby tweaks it for you). You can download it from: http://www.freshdevices.com/.

Thanks Jayt36, I downloaded the program and will check it out, but in the meantime I replaced the shell32.dll in Windows system with the shell32.dll from one of my disks(Win98SE)and the problem disappeared and so far when I go to windows update it is not prompting me to reinstall the critical update.
