I have noticed an incredible improvement in Vista's search field (compared to XP) I have even disabled my copy of Copernic desktop search 2 so I can learn to work with Vista's native search. It is incredbily fast--I can get the results by the time Copernic has loaded a window.

My question--one thing I loved about Copernic is that it gave me a preview of the document itself. All I had to do was select the search result in the top window, and in teh bottom window would appear a short preview of the document, right where the term (that I searched for) appeared.

Is there any way to get Vista's search results to be able to do any of this? Vista's search is great when there is only one result, but combing through dozens can take a while.

The only thing I got via googling was a program called Start+++ or something like that, that enabled keyboard shortcuts.

There is a way to do what I was asking about. In case anyone else is interested in this, here goes:

Bring up the search results in their own window (not in the start menu), by hitting Enter, or by clicking on the "See all the resultsâ€. Go to View>Choose Details. I scrolled down the window to see Folder Name. Put a check on it. This will make this information appear in the search results, whenever you open them up in their own folder. The next time you do a Windows Search, just click on Folder Name, and then your search results will be organized according to their location (the folder they are in).

You can use this same Choose Details window to move the locations of each of the details around in these search results. For example, you can have document type next to document name, or next to folder name, etc. To move the particular details around, when that Choose Details window opens up, select a detail, then look up to the right, and click on Move Up or Move Down. Moving up makes it go to the left; moving down makes it go to the right.

Finally, to get the search results to always open up a certain way, all you have to do is make them open up that way once, and the next search results window will show the results in the same way.
