    Good morning
I have a question on tweaking the registry default to 10. When I read this on one of the web pages I thought maybe this would help my browsing speed.

Trick to Increase Internet Explorer Speed

    1. Go to Start "“> Run and type regedit
    2. Select HKEY_CURRENT_USER "“> Software "“> Microsoft "“> Windows "“> Current Version "“> Internet Settings
    3. Increase the values (DECIMAL) from default to a higher value e.g. 10

See the difference in speed of IE

I'm just new at this and only want to make sure when I find internet setting in the registry I simply delete the (Default) word and replace it with e.g. 10 or just the number 10. I did notice that on that same line on the right side it say no value set I'm sure that the number does not go there due to this area will not high light to replace the info in that spot. This is probably a no brainer but like I said I'm just checking with your expertise first before I do something that maybe I'm not doing correctly.

    Thank you

    Garry

A tweak that I use to speed up Internet Explorer is located here, http://enhanceie.com/ie/tweaks.asp. If you scroll down to speed tweaks I use that reg file to speed up IE. I am not sure if the tweak you are describing is the same one that I am talking about or not.

    @Evan, Looks like it is

@Garry you're missing vital information in your instructions, it's never a good idea to mess with the registry if you're not sure about what you're doing. In this case you wouldn't have done any harm but no benefit either. Thumbs up for having the sense to ask here rather than plunging in though ;)

Another note of caution here. There were actually two widely known tweaks associated with increasing the number of simultaneous connections, one dealing with the http 1.0 standard and another dealing with the http 1.1 standard. Prior to the introduction of Windows XP, these worked quite well with dial-up connections and produced a noticeable improvement. They were D-Word edits or additions depending on one's system. I'm not going to post them because they can actually do more harm than good.

If you have a broadband connection, these tweaks will probably make several sites unaccessable or lets say one is going to be seeing a lot of 404 errors.

If you want to optimize your connection, I would first suggest running line speed tests at different times of the day to establish a reference point. Then get something like DrTCP which will permit easy changes to several common registry settings without requiring your direct access to the registry. Then you can experiment with different settings while always maintaining the ability to go back to your original default settings. You will need to spend several hours benchmarking and tweaking to obtain a noticeable speed gain and I would point you in the general direction of the tools available at DSLReports.com which will be a most informative site. The more reading, testing and tweaking one does, the more one will appreciate what a joke some of these so-called tweaks actually are.

    ;)

    Tweaking IE7 faster browsing

Evan I received your reply thank you--as I was reading I checked out my automatic setting and that was checked but if I uncheck that wouldn't that take away my internet settings. I did however check the box that came up and ask if I wanted to run fix Httpmax.reg on my registry I'm assuming this will do the trick as far as increasing my browsing on the internet.

Thank you for your reply be advise

This option may be required but most often it is not, the only benefit you'll see if you clear it is initial browser startup, if you clear it and you no longer have access then just tick it again you won't lose any settings.

Yes that is the tweak you were looking at previously, as far as increasing your browsing, you milage will vary.

No Problem Garry. :) I just find the internet tweak in the link on my post much safer to use then having to go into the registry and change a setting there. There is less of a chance of somone messing up their system by modifying the registry incorrectly.
